Every now and then, it’s worth repeating — because we’ve seen what can go wrong when pools are drained improperly. In Florida especially, DIY pool draining can turn into a very expensive mistake.
Here’s why you should always call a professional:
Pools can pop out of the ground
- Florida’s high water table means groundwater pressure can literally lift an empty pool like a boat. Once that happens, the damage is severe and costly.
Surface and structural damage
- Draining at the wrong time, too quickly, or without proper precautions can crack plaster, damage finishes, and stress the shell of the pool.
Equipment issues
- Incorrect draining and refilling can introduce air into the system, damage pumps, heaters, and filters, and create problems that don’t show up until later.
Chemical balance matters after refilling
- Refilling isn’t the end of the job — startup chemicals, brushing, and monitoring are critical to protect your surface and keep water safe and clear.
