Central Florida Spotlight: The Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art
If you’re looking for a truly unique Central Florida experience (one that isn’t a theme park, wildlife encounter, or outdoor escape) then the Morse Museum in Winter Park deserves a spot at the very top of your must-visit list.
Home to the world’s most comprehensive collection of Louis Comfort Tiffany’s works, this museum is a quiet, glowing treasure hidden right in the heart of a charming historic district.
Why This Museum Is a Must-See
The Largest Tiffany Collection on Earth
- We’re talking iconic Tiffany lamps, jewel-like glass mosaics, stained-glass windows, pottery, and even architectural pieces from Tiffany’s famed estate, Laurelton Hall. If you think stained glass is just for church windows — this place will change your mind!
Stunning Art Glass & Decorative Arts
- Art Nouveau design, intricate jewelry, European and American decorative pieces… everywhere you look is a “wow” moment.
Perfect Winter Park Location
- Tour the museum, then wander down Park Avenue for food, shopping, and lakeside views — it’s an ideal day trip.
Quiet, Beautifully Curated Galleries
- No crowds. No rushing. Just a peaceful, air-conditioned escape into color, craftsmanship, and history (a Florida luxury on its own).
Quick History
Founded in 1942, the museum became what it is today thanks to the lifelong work of Hugh and Jeannette McKean, who rescued and preserved Tiffany’s creations when they had nearly been lost to history.
The museum opened its current Park Avenue location in 1995, solidifying Winter Park as a cultural hub in Central Florida.
Fun Facts You Might Not Know
- The Morse has entire reconstructed rooms from Tiffany’s Long Island mansion. Yes, whole interiors!
- Its Chapel Interior, created for the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago, is considered one of Tiffany’s masterpieces.
- You can view the Tiffany Daffodil Terrace, a breathtaking outdoor architectural installation made of carved marble columns and glass tiles.
Admission is free on Fridays from 4–8 PM — date night idea secured!
If you’re a local looking to rediscover Central Florida or a visitor wanting something classy, artistic, and unforgettable, the Morse Museum offers an experience unlike anything else in the state.
