Florida’s beautiful landscape comes with one unique challenge for pool owners: our sandy soil. While it drains quickly and reduces flooding risks, it can also shift easily — and that natural movement can impact the stability of your pool over time.
Here’s what every Central Florida homeowner should know:
- Sandy soil shifts more easily
As the ground settles, voids can form under or around your pool. Over time, this may lead to structural stress, uneven decking, or cracks. - Water movement changes the soil constantly
Heavy rains, irrigation, or nearby leaks can wash sand away, reducing the support beneath your pool shell and equipment pad. - Sandy soil requires proper compaction during construction
If the base wasn’t correctly prepared, issues might appear years later — especially around the deck, coping, or plumbing. - Tree roots love sandy soil
Certain Florida trees spread wide, not deep, and roots can push or lift sections of decking or underground plumbing. - Older pools are more vulnerable
Natural soil settlement happens over decades. If your pool is 15–20+ years old, monitoring is even more important.
