My Pool Repairs
Ever seen a floating potato with flippers? That’s right — we’re talking about the one-and-only Florida Manatee!
(Okay, that’s not technically what they look like… but you get the vibe
)
These gentle giants are slow-moving, curious, and incredibly peaceful. If Florida had an animal ambassador for chill vibes, manatees would win by a splash.
Meet the Manatee
Species: West Indian Manatee
Nickname: “Sea Cow” — because they graze on seagrass all day
Size: Up to 10–13 feet long, 800–1,200 lbs
Speed: A lightning-fast 3–5 mph (okay, maybe not lightning)
Favorite Hangouts: Warm springs & coastal waters — especially in winter!
These aquatic marshmallows are actually closely related to elephants, not whales! Their little whiskered snouts and slow, steady movements are absolute chef’s kiss.

Did You Know?
- Manatees need warm water — anything below ~68°F can be dangerous.
- They surface for air every 3–5 minutes… or up to 20 minutes when they’re taking a nap!

- They eat up to 10% of their body weight daily in seagrass. Respect the appetite!
Protect Our Manatees
Florida manatees are a protected species — and they need our help.
If you’re boating, swimming, or enjoying Florida’s waterways:
Watch for “Manatee Zone” signs
Avoid seagrass beds and spring habitats
Never feed or touch wildlife
Let’s keep Florida’s gentle giants safe for generations
Seen a Manatee While Swimming or Boating?
Lucky you! Just remember: look, admire, don’t disturb.
These big babies are curious — but they depend on us to give them space & respect.
