My Pool Repairs

Yesterday was World Whale and Dolphin Day (July 23), and we’re still riding the wave of appreciation here on Water Lovers Thursday! From deep ocean dives to joyful jumps near Florida’s coast, these intelligent marine mammals remind us how truly incredible the underwater world is.
Florida waters are home to several dolphin and whale species—some you might spot on a boat tour, and others that stay far offshore. The most familiar visitor? The bottlenose dolphin, often seen leaping alongside boats or cruising near inlets. But did you know Florida is also part-time home to humpback, pilot, and even North Atlantic right whales?
Quick Facts:
- Dolphins can recognize themselves in mirrors, use tools, and have signature whistles (like names!)
- Whales like the humpback sing complex songs that can travel miles underwater
- The North Atlantic right whale is one of the most endangered large whales—with fewer than 350 remaining
How You Can Help:
- Support ocean-friendly tourism and boat responsibly, slow down in known whale/dolphin zones
- Reduce plastic use to keep their habitats clean
- Report sightings to marine wildlife groups—it helps with tracking and conservation efforts
We don’t expect to find whales in backyard pools (yet), but these magnificent animals are a vital part of the planet’s aquatic ecosystem—and they deserve every splash of celebration.
