My Pool Repairs

It’s Water Lovers Thursday, and today’s feature is the American Alligator—a prehistoric powerhouse that’s been chilling in swamps and freshwater lakes for over 150 million years. That’s right, gators were making waves long before dinosaurs went extinct!
Native to the southeastern U.S.—especially Florida—alligators are built for the water. With powerful tails for swimming, webbed feet for steering, and nostrils and eyes placed high on their heads, they can cruise almost completely submerged while keeping an eye (or two) on the world above.
Did you know? Despite their fearsome look, gators are surprisingly shy and mostly keep to themselves—especially if you give them space. They play a key role in their ecosystem, creating “gator holes” during the dry season that provide water and shelter for fish, birds, and turtles.
Bonus Fact: They can hold their breath underwater for up to 2 hours when resting. Now that’s some serious poolside relaxation!
While we definitely don’t want them dropping by your backyard pool, spotting one in the wild (safely!) is an unforgettable Florida moment. Just remember: admire from afar and never feed wildlife.
Stay safe, stay cool, and stay tuned for more aquatic creatures next Thursday!
