Maintain proper chlorine levels – Your sanitizer is your first line of defense. Don’t let levels dip, especially during hot weeks. A chlorine level of 1–3 ppm is ideal.Brush and vacuum regularly – Algae spores love to cling to walls and corners. Weekly brushing and vacuuming (even if the pool looks clean) can stop growth before it starts.Run your pool pump daily – In Florida, aim for 8–12 hours a day to keep water circulating and chemicals evenly distributed.Shock the pool when needed – After heavy rain, a party, or a missed cleaning, a quick shock treatment can kill off early-stage algae.
