My Pool Repairs

Today’s oversized swimmer is none other than the moose—North America’s tallest land mammal and an unexpected water superstar.
Moose aren’t just casual waders. They’re serious swimmers—capable of paddling for miles and even diving up to 20 feet deep to munch on aquatic plants like lily pads and pondweed. That’s right… these giants go snorkeling for salad.
With long legs built for marshes and bogs, moose thrive in water-rich environments. During hot summer months, they take frequent dips to stay cool and avoid biting insects. And trust us—when you’re as big as a moose, you deserve the full spa treatment.
Did you know? A moose’s nostrils automatically close when it dives underwater—basically nature’s built-in swim mask!
Where to Spot Them:
Moose love wetland habitats, and although they do not live here in Florida, they are commonly found in:
Denali National Park (AK)
Algonquin Provincial Park (ON, Canada)
Grand Teton National Park (WY)
Baxter State Park (ME)
Early morning or dusk near lakeshores is your best bet!
Conservation Tip:
Moose populations are vulnerable to habitat loss, road collisions, and climate change. Support wildlife corridors, drive carefully in moose zones, and advocate for wetland protection to help these majestic water-waders thrive.
